Oh yea...here it is...finally...

To those of you who commented with your thoughts in the previous journal entry, I have read them all, all of your interesting opinions on not only Man of Steel but also your thoughts on a 'DC cinematic universe'...

I don't know much about film production, nor am I a critic...These are just my thoughts on the film... I'll try not to give away any spoilers... >.<

The Story

Pretty solid. Like a lot of people I sort of went in expecting it to be a typical 'reboot'; the same story that we all already know, with slight differences and amazing special effects due to the technology of our time. Basically a modernized version of Christopher Reeves Superman, The Movie...But it wasn't...
I'm not a hardcore (knows everything about Superman and his story/ies) fan, but for the most part I liked the story. I never really payed much attention to the actual history of Krypton, so it was good to learn about that...Leaving some obvious scenes out was good *(not showing when the Kents found baby Kal-El etc...)*.
The overall film was very sci-fi, at times kind of reminded me of Star Wars or Avatar. The special effects were awesome, although it didn't give me that same feeling in 3D as The Avengers did (I'm not going all Marvel vs DC, it just happens that The Avengers was epic in 3D).

The Suit

The suit is awesome..nuff said...It was about time Superman had a bit of a change in outfit, meaning the loss of the iconic red underwear. The suit as a whole has become my favorite version, the scenes that show the cape just flowing in the wind...wow...

The Music

Hans Zimmer's been my all time favorite composer since TLK...yes...I'm a HUGE TLK fan, obsessed even, listening to the OST right now in fact...His job on The Dark Knight trilogy was superb, so when I found out he was working on MOS, it seemed he would do an inevitable great job...which he did. I knew there wasn't going to be some sort of inkling of John Williams' iconic theme, although a little part of me hoped there would be, but it was a great score overall. Hope he stays on for future films leading up to Justice League...or at least return if/when Justice League is finally in production.

The Acting

Henry Cavill was amazing...I won't go all fan-girl, but he truly did a good performance of the character. The 'modest farm-boy(who isn't aware of how good-looking he is)' image has become a bit of a cliche, so I liked that they changed it a bit. I'm officially a member of the 'Cavillry'.
I'm not too fond of Amy Adams' performance...In my opinion Kate Bosworth(Superman Returns) was a better Lois Lane...but that's just me...
Russell Crowe was great as Jor-El. There were a few times he reminded me of Marlon Brando, he just needed the voice, but he was grand.
Michael Shannon's Zod was also great.

What I expect from a sequel/ Future DC titles

Okay, aside from most of my expectations for MOS being thrown out the window, they come back for the sequel. I'd expect to see Clark adjusting as, well...Clark... in Metropolis and his job at the Daily Planet. Sure, throw in Lex Luthor...not as the antagonist, but rather give him a little screen time, introducing him briefly into the overall story and possibly give us a peek at his role and intentions in a 3rd film.
As for the antagonist...I'd like to see either Bizzarro, Doomsday, the Spectre...or any one else...Luthor's had his spotlight far too many times.

DC needs to get some new and good formulas going for movies of Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, Martian Manhunter, and a re-do of Green Lantern (Come on, Marvel sunk with Hulk, and came back with The Incredible Hulk) It can be done. As for Batman...will Christian Bale return or is he done for good? Personally I was never fond of him playing the caped crusader, but he did a pretty solid job. I don't think another Batman film is in order...They could just get another actor to take on the dark knights cape in a JL film (Mark Ruffallo was awesome as Bruce Banner, right?).

I know I said I would compare Marvel with DC, but it was inevitable...^^;
Anyways I know I said I might have some questions for you guys...I don't...I can't really think of any right now...But feel free to comment with whatever you feel like... :P

****RANT ALERT****
Following on JonezToons' comment in the previous post;
I know there are a lot of critics(or critic wannabe's out there) claiming the movie was a let down...(The highest US opening weekend in 2013 so far, a let down...really?) Not everybody gets it right every time...and everyone's ideas are different...As an artist, I'd hate for someone to jump down my throat because of a way I have portrayed something. Go ahead, have your own opinion, good or bad...but don't go on about it, like I kind of did with the Twilight Saga, and yet still watched every single one of them. Why? Because I had an open mind. That's all you need...
****END OF RANT****
------------------------------------------------------------

Okay, now that that's over with...the next topic for discussion will be...The Wolverine...In a month's time, that is. I hate when they show trailers for movies that are only expected like six months to a year from now (Which is what happened with MOS in the first place)...my God the anticipation...Oh, by the way I'm talking about Thor: The Dark World...

I loved MOS and thought I was better than the Avengers, which was still a good movie also. I as surprise to see all the hate towards this movie before it came out and how people were saying it was going to flop harder than Green Lantern but alas, the movie is box office smash. I haven't seen GL yet but I do know thatthe comic book series was campy but still a good series so I don't know what people were expecting when the movie came out.
